We introduce the Biodiversity Habitat Index (BHI) to the 2020 EPI as a new indicator which estimates the effects of habitat loss, degradation, and fragmentation on the expected retention of terrestrial biodiversity. CSIRO calculates the BHI from remote sensing data and other studies of ecological diversity. A score of 100 indicates that a country has experienced no habitat loss or degradation, and a score of 0 indicates complete habitat loss.
